An Overview on Nanotechnology in Food Packaging

Mohammad Arif

In recent years, the food industry has witnessed a transformative shift towards innovative packaging solutions driven by advances in nanotechnology. Nanotechnology, the manipulation of matter at the nanoscale, has enabled the development of food packaging materials with remarkable properties, enhancing food safety, quality, and shelf life. This article delves into the burgeoning field of nanotechnology in food packaging, exploring its applications, benefits, and potential challenges. Nano technology in food packaging refers to the application of nanotechnology principles and materials in the manufacturing of packaging materials for food products. This innovative approach allows for the development of packaging with enhanced properties such as improved barrier properties, antimicrobial activity, and sensor capabilities. At the nanoscale, materials exhibit unique properties that can be leveraged to address various challenges in food packaging, such as extending shelf life, preserving food quality, and ensuring food safety. Nano-enabled packaging materials can create barriers against oxygen, moisture, and other contaminants, thus preventing spoilage and degradation of food products.
