RADIATION THERAPY PATIENT: SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS IN PROSTHODONTIC MANAGEMENT

The use of radiat ion therapy in the t reatment of pat ients wi th head and neck cancer has increased in the past few years. The effects of radiat ion therapy on the soft t issues and bone present the cl inician wi th new chal lenges regarding the dental care. The prosthodont ic rehabi l i tat ion of the pat ient requi res special care and t reatment protocol to overcome the problems of mucosi t is, xerostomia and osteoradionecrosis. This paper emphasizes special considerat ion dur ing the prosthet ic rehabi l i tat ion of the pat ient wi th insight into both the preradiat ion and the post- radiat ion care of such pat ient .
