Sana Arshad, Sajjad Sohail, Muhammad Shahjahan and Sohail M Afzal

Most hepatitis C infections have increased morbidity and mortality rates at the global level, which is the most
disquieting threat to human beings. More than 350 million persons have been infected by this virus. A total of 206
HD patients were admitted in Victoria hospital from January 2017 to July 2018. Centrifugation was done at 2000
revolutions per minutes (RPM) of all samples and then serum collected in two separate tubes stored them at 20°C
for the detection of anti-HCV by using ELISA. The results were showing that 113 (54.85%) patients with hepatitis C
positive antibody, while 93(45.14%) hepatitis C negative. Mean age of patients was 45 ± 15 years. Out of 70
females, 54.28% were HCV positive and 45.71% HCV negative. Out of 136 males, 55.14% were HCV positive and
44.85% HCV negative. A total of 113 HCV positive patients, 89% had diabetes and 34% had hypertension. And a
total of 93 HCV negative patients 21% have diabetes and 25% have hypertension. While, Mean ± SD values of each
parameter were followed: HB, 8.18 ± 1.68; Creatinine, 10.5044 ± 1 4.9804; Urea, 154 ± 59.9. While Mean ± SD
values of HCV negative dialysis patients of each parameter were followed: HB, 8.19 ± 1.66; Creatinine, 10.4791 ±
14.795; Urea, 153 ± 60. Patients who lay between the 41-50 years of age group were many in numbers. Most
common risk factors were blood transfusion and surgery. Those patients were on the peak that had been dialyzed
more than seven years, and infection chances were about 100%. HCV screening should be performed in those
patients who have CKD so that HCV positive patients can be diagnosed at an earlier stage.
